Recognizing Hearing Loss

Healthy hearing begins with awareness and proactive care. Understanding the signs of hearing loss and how to protect your ears can make a lifelong difference.

Learn the Signs

  • Frequently asking others to repeat themselves
  • Turning up the TV or radio volume higher than others prefer
  • Difficulty following conversations in noisy environments
  • Ringing in the ears, or tinnitus
  • Feeling that others are mumbling or speaking unclearly
  • Avoiding social activities due to hearing difficulties

Prevention & Protection

  • Limit exposure to loud sounds and wear ear protection at concerts, while using power tools, or in other noisy environments.
  • Give your ears a rest after long periods of noise exposure.
  • Avoid inserting cotton swabs or objects into the ear canal.
  • Schedule annual hearing evaluations, especially if you work in noisy environments or already use hearing aids.

Managing Tinnitus

(Ringing in the Ears)

  • Avoid caffeine, nicotine, and loud noise exposure
  • Use pleasant background sounds or white noise for relief
  • Consult our audiologists for tinnitus management strategies and hearing aids with built-in sound therapy

Communicating with Someone with Hearing Loss

Effective communication involves more than speaking louder. Facing the listener, speaking clearly, reducing background noise, and using visual cues can greatly improve understanding. Small adjustments can make everyday conversations more positive and successful.
